It was amazing what our Pompeii tour guide managed to teach us in 2 hours but it was much too short for such a large site. I would skip the Sorrento aspect (if you're travelling in Winter) as it was very quiet and would recommend you to do a full day at Pompeii instead.

We had an incredible day trip with our two children (6 & 8 yrs old). The Amalfi Coast was breathtaking, with a beautiful whistle stop in Sorrento and an enriching tour in Pompei, which the kids enjoyed as much as the adults. A highlight of the tour was our knowledgeable and engaging tour guide, Antonino from City Wonders; a week later and we're still talking about the stories he shared with us! Julio our bus driver was also great and went out of his way to entertain the kids! We highly recommend doing this tour.

Fantastic experience in Pompeii and Sorrento. Our tour guide Heather, driver Francesco, and the guide at Pompeii Antonio were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Great recommendations on how to spend free time in Sorrento. Pompeii was a lot bigger than we were expecting - the tour was wonderful but you do miss out on quite a few areas simply due to having limited time.

Our guide was Marinela and our driver was Danilo! They were the persons who gave life to our amazing experience in Positano-Amalfi Coast and Pompeii! Both were amazing! Danilo is a great singer :)) and Marinela is such a great teller! Both of them with their specific hospitality guided us through our journey so specific so that we won't miss out a thing! Their energy was fulfilling and the care and safety were top level! Thank you so much and wish you all the best! Ramona&Valeriu I

Bus driver and guides were excellent throughout. We started off in Rome and made our way along the Amalfi Coast towards Sorrento, with a couple of stops on the way for some Limoncello and chocolate tasting while the driver has a break. We had lunch in this beautiful resturaunt in Sorrento overlooking the sea. The only issue I had with this trip is that a couple of travellers on the tour were 30 mins late in coming back to the bus meeting point after lunch, therefore we lost 30 mins in Pompeii, which only gave us 1 hour in Pompeii and it was very rushed as you need more time than an hour to fully experience Pompeii. It's a shame that other travellers can ruin the experience for everyone else by not paying attention to the meet up times states by the guide but it is what it is.

The stops were great. Free time in Sorrento was great. The guide in Pompeii was excellent. So knowledgeable, had lots of stories, showed us a few key points rather than running us through. The main issue, that made the day quite uncomfortable, is that there was no bathroom on the bus. The total trip was 13 hours, 4 was spent at Pompeii and Sorrento (including limoncello stop), and about 1 hour for bathroom stops. That is still 8 hours in a bus with no bathroom. I would not recommend this tour for that reason alone.

Laura was an excellent guide. She was very helpful, had the best tips, taught us about the history of the didferent places we passed by and also showed us some local songs. The tour guide at Pompeii was extremely knowledgeable and made the tour enjoyable. I highly recommend joining this daytrip. It was also interesting to visit the limoncello factory on that day. I would just recommend people to do some research before Sorrento, so that you know what to do during your free time.

The places visited and the local guide in Pompeii, very clear and friendly in their treatment. Not like the tour guide, we knew it was in English language that we understand, but we do not speak fluently, the guide Maria Helena, did not try by any means to understand or understand what we needed, another person on the tour spoke 3 languages and she understood us as well as the English speaking passengers, but the guide did not, she had no will for that. At the same time, on the return trip we had a delay of more than 1 hr, because the guide did not give us the schedule and the pick up point, 6 passengers had to take a cab to the bus.

l dunno how this got rated as awesome. The trip was good but it could have been better. The tour guide Semih was amazing and kept it fun, but we hardly got to spend anytime in either of the island. Would have been better off to just go to one island and spend some quality time there, rather than hurrying and visiting two. Would not recommend this tour for that reason.

RomeRome To Amalfi Coast Tours

Why take a day trip from Rome to the Amalfi Coast?

Craving a break from the urban bustle of Rome? Check out the Amalfi Coast, filled with colorful homes, mountain trails, hidden coves, and serene beaches. Easily travel down the west coast from Rome and enjoy the perfect day trip for those staying in the city!

  • These day trips offer a perfect blend of relaxation, exploration, and unforgettable coastal views, all with the ease of round-trip transportation.
  • Travel along scenic coastal roads with views of the Gulf of Naples and the towering Mount Vesuvius, and arrive at the ‘Divine Coast’—famous for its cliffs, lush mountains, and picturesque villages. Your guided day trips let you skip the hassle of planning and navigation, so you can simply savor the beauty of this UNESCO-listed coastline.
  • From Amalfi’s vibrant streets to Positano’s charming shops, each town offers its own slice of Italian charm. Wander through colorful alleys, stop by local boutiques, and soak up the unique ambiance of the coast. Add a coastal cruise from Salerno so you can admire the Amalfi cliffs, hidden coves, and lively harbor towns from the sea.
  • Indulge in the region’s freshest seafood and sample Amalfi’s famous limoncello, made from the area’s large sweet lemons. Enjoy the coast’s unique flavors and traditions.
  • Customize your experience by adding on a visit to the nearby town of Sorrento or the ancient city of Pompeii!

Things to know before booking a Rome to Amalfi Coast day tour

  • A Rome to Amalfi Coast day tour typically lasts 12 to 15 hours, with early morning departures that let you make the most of your time along the coast. The duration varies depending on your chosen itinerary—whether you want to focus on the picturesque Amalfi Coast alone or explore additional sites such as the ancient ruins of Pompeii or the nearby Sorrento. Each option offers a unique lens on the region’s history and breathtaking scenery.
  • The journey from Rome to the Amalfi Coast takes approximately 3.5 hours one way, offering beautiful coastal views and glimpses of charming Italian villages along the route. However, the winding coastal roads and limited parking on the Amalfi Coast can be challenging, especially during peak season. By booking a tour with round-trip transfers, you can relax and enjoy the scenery without the hassle of navigation, traffic, or parking.
  • Choose a classic AC coach for a leisurely scenic drive or a high-speed train for a faster, more direct route to the coast. Both options allow you to enjoy sweeping Italian landscapes along the way.
  • All day trips include an experienced guide who will share local insights, historical context, and insider tips, making sure you don’t miss any of the region’s hidden gems and iconic landmarks.
  • If you’re looking for a more intimate experience, consider a semi-private tour with smaller groups and personalized attention from your guide. This setup allows for a more tailored experience, with extra time to ask questions and explore at a relaxed pace.
  • Elevate your Amalfi Coast experience with customizable options, such as a scenic cruise along the coast, which allows you to take in breathtaking views of the cliffs, coves, and colorful villages that line the shore. You could even get a chance to taste the famous limoncello!
  • Please note: Due to the region’s steep terrain and narrow pathways, these day trips are currently not accessible to wheelchairs or strollers

Furore Fjord

Though called a "fjord," Fiordo di Furore isn’t one in the traditional sense; true fjords are sculpted by glaciers, while this rugged inlet was shaped by the relentless flow of the Schiato torrent. Still, the hidden beach—framed by a stunning arched bridge—exudes an enchanting charm, making the strenuous trek down (and back up) the hundreds of stone steps completely worthwhile.

  • The best seasons to enjoy a day trip to the Amalfi Coast are September to October and April to May. The days are bright and warm, featuring minimal rain and fewer crowds.
  • Visiting in November and December involves fewer crowds but it is also off-season, which means that certain services like ferries will not be available.
  • If you aim to hike the Path of the Gods trail, it’s best to start early in the morning. The route from Praiano to Positano is 5 miles long, and considered challenging due to the steep ascents and descents from both towns.

  • Pack light but essential: Bring only what you need, such as water, snacks, a power bank, and a small first-aid kit, but keep your bag light.
  • Budget for lunch: Leave space in your budget for lunch and shopping, as numerous restaurants and souvenir stores line the seafront villages of the Amalfi Coast.
  • Off-season travelers: Ensure you plan for alternative transport options, since ferry services only run from April until the end of October or beginning of November.
  • Prepare for connectivity issues: Network coverage along the Amalfi Coast tends to be patchy. To prepare, you can download offline maps and check for free Wi-Fi at some restaurants and towns, like Maiori.
  • Engage with the locals: A kind and respectful conversation can go a long way, especially when it comes to discovering niche spots along the Amalfi Coast.
  • Be flexible: Have a plan, but be open to spontaneous changes based on discoveries or recommendations. That’s what makes guided day trips with transfers a great option!
